Greenberg Glove Art is currently on display in 'Chasing Dreams' exhibit at the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art. Info >

greenberg-on-display-smmja.jpg

Glove includes museum display stand, as shown here on view at the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art.

This hand-painted baseball glove features Hall of Fame slugger Hank Greenberg and highlights from his career during baseball's Golden Age.

Sean-Kane-Hank-Greenberg-4.jpg

A two-time MVP (1935 and 1940), Greenberg famously chased Babe Ruth's single season home run record in 1938, ending the season with 58 round-trippers. (And he won the MVP's at two different positions, First Baseman and Left Fielder.)

The front side features a hand-painted portrait of Hank. The portrait is about four inches high, painted with professional artist-grade acrylic paint. The paint on the glove is sealed with an acrylic matte finish.

Sean-Kane-Hank-Greenberg-3.jpg

The front also references Hank Greenberg's time with the Detroit Tigers, 1930-1946, and Pittsburgh Pirates, 1947. He became the first player paid $100,000 when he was dealt to the Pirates.

Sean-Kane-Hank-Greenberg-glove-art-7.jpg

One of the great power hitters in baseball history, "Hammerin' Hank" pounded 183 RBI in 1937 and had seven 100+ RBI seasons in his career.

The 5-time All-Star Greenberg was America's first Jewish baseball star. He famously chose to play on Rosh Hashanah in 1934, helping the Detroit Tigers in their pursuit of the pennant, but chose not to play on Yom Kippur that same year.

The back side of the firstbase mitt features a painting of Hammerin' Hank at bat and a few of his career stats are highlighted. 1276 RBI in 1394 games (a higher RBI to games ratio than Babe Ruth) and 331 HR. Plus, all this run production while hitting for average with a lifetime total .313 avg.

Sean-Kane-Hank-Greenberg-5.jpg

Hank Greenberg served 45 months military service during World War II, the longest enlistment of any major league player, missing all or part of five big league seasons.

Sean-Kane-Hank-Greenberg-glove-art-6.jpg

Greenberg appeared in four World Series with the Tigers, winning championships in 1935 and 1945 while hitting a combined .318 in postseason.

Sean-Kane-Hank-Greenberg-glove-art-10.jpg

The vintage glove used for this artwork is a 1930's Reach model 275.  This first baseman mitt is about 8.5 inches wide by 12 inches tall.

This art is sure to spark lots of great baseball memories and will be enjoyed for years to come.
