Foster began his baseball career as a pitcher, during which he played for the Chicago American Giants and the Philadelphia Cuban X Giants.

Andrew "Rube" Foster became owner-manager of the Chicago American Giants after forming the team in 1911.

His American Giants won the first three pennants in the Negro National League.

This baseball art of Foster is based on a 1920 American Giants team photo that included himself surrounded by his team, although he is wearing a slightly different uniform than everyone else.
