Baseball Anthem Featured on Leather Baseball Glove

“Take Me Out to the Ball Game” is celebrated with this hand-lettered artwork on a 1900s glove similar to the style worn in the first decade of the 20th century.

The unofficial official anthem of baseball, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” was written in 1908 by two men who had never been to a game before.

The song title is hand-painted by Sean Kane with a type design inspired by the look of the times when the song was written.

The song’s ubiquity within the culture – beyond being sung at ballparks during the 7th inning stretch – is pronounced, appearing in movies, children’s books, commercials, and newly-recorded versions countless times during the past 112 years.

Jackie Robinson and highlights from his rookie year of 1947 when he broke baseball's color barrier.

During his debut in 1947, becoming the first African American in the 20th century to play major league baseball, Jackie Robinson hit .297 and led the National League with 29 stolen bases. The Brooklyn Dodgers won the National League pennant that year and Robinson was awarded Rookie of the Year.

The vintage glove used for this artwork is a 1940's Spalding model MO.

Charleston is celebrated with this hand-painted portrait

“Charlie” is featured on a vintage 1930’s Spalding first base mitt. The power-hitting centerfielder moved over to first base later in his career. The glove is for a left-handed thrower, like Charleston.

Charleston played in the Negro Leagues, starting with his hometown Indianapolis ABC's (American Brewing Company) in 1915.

He played for the ABC’s in the first Negro National League games on May 2, 1920. Charleston was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1976.

Portrait and Career Highlights

Painting Cal on a Gold Glove wasn’t my idea. The folks at the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation suggested that I create my artwork featuring the “Iron Man” on an authentic Rawlings Gold Glove. With their help, the glove was in my studio soon thereafter.

The Hall of Fame slugger is portrayed as he appeared in his 2131st consecutive game, celebrating breaking Lou Gehrig’s record back in 1995 at Camden Yards in Baltimore.

This painting was created to help raise funds for the Ripken Foundation’s efforts to support youth baseball around the country.
