1952 “League of Their Own” Players Depicted on Leather Baseball Glove

Jean Faut and Jo Weaver, stars of the 1952 AAGPBL season, are co-celebrated with this hand-painted depiction on the back of a 1940s buckle-back first base mitt, which conveniently divides down the middle.

The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) was a professional women’s baseball league from 1943 to 1954, started by baseball executives to keep baseball in the public eye while Major League Baseball had players heading to war.

In 1952, while New York had rivals Yankees and Dodgers squaring off to become champions, Indiana had the South Bend Blue Sox battling the Ft. Wayne Daisies for the pennant.

The 1952 Fort Wayne Daisies, led by slugger Joanne Weaver, took the Season Title. Weaver hit .344 that season for the batting title, joined by two of her sisters on the team.

And the Playoff Title in 1952 went to the South Bend Blue Sox, led by pitching ace Jean Faut. Faut had a 20-2 record and 0.93 ERA, leading all league pitchers.

The 1952 shield design under the buckle strap is a reference to the AAGPBL’s logo design.

Hand-painted frame includes glimpse of SB and FW hat logos on each team’s side of the frame.
