Toni Stone celebrated with depiction on vintage Baseball Gloves

The first woman to play professionally in the Negro Leagues, Stone took over playing second base for the Indianapolis Clowns in 1953, the position Hank Aaron had played for the team the previous season.

Overcoming being shunned by most of the male players, she paved the way for two other women to join the Clowns, Mamie Johnson and Connie Morgan.

The Clowns were the last of the Negro Leagues teams, continuing to play exhibition games into the 1980s, long after the league folded in 1956.

Stone was inducted into the Women's Sports Hall of Fame in 1993. A play about her life, “Toni Stone”, was produced in 2019. She died in 1996.

Stone's name hand-painted in a typeface similar to that used on Clowns promotional posters in 1950s.

Framed on wood panel with painted mat stripe design recalling Indianapolis Clowns posters for their exhibition games and game programs.

"What Toni Stone provided us is a look inside at possibilities of what hope and dreams are all about."

Bob Kendrick, President of Negro Leagues Baseball Museum

1952 “League of Their Own” Players Depicted on Leather Baseball Glove

Jean Faut and Jo Weaver, stars of the 1952 AAGPBL season, are co-celebrated with this hand-painted depiction on the back of a 1940s buckle-back first base mitt, which conveniently divides down the middle.

The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) was a professional women’s baseball league from 1943 to 1954, started by baseball executives to keep baseball in the public eye while Major League Baseball had players heading to war.

In 1952, while New York had rivals Yankees and Dodgers squaring off to become champions, Indiana had the South Bend Blue Sox battling the Ft. Wayne Daisies for the pennant.

The 1952 Fort Wayne Daisies, led by slugger Joanne Weaver, took the Season Title. Weaver hit .344 that season for the batting title, joined by two of her sisters on the team.

And the Playoff Title in 1952 went to the South Bend Blue Sox, led by pitching ace Jean Faut. Faut had a 20-2 record and 0.93 ERA, leading all league pitchers.

The 1952 shield design under the buckle strap is a reference to the AAGPBL’s logo design.

Hand-painted frame includes glimpse of SB and FW hat logos on each team’s side of the frame.

Hildebrand Depicted on Leather Baseball Glove

“Hildy” is celebrated with this hand-painted portrait on a glove similar to the style he wore while pitching for the Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Browns and New York Yankees.

Oral Hildebrand’s All-Star appearance in 1933 is highlighted in hand-painted type. He had a 16-11 record in ‘33 and led the American League in shutouts with six.

"Hildy", a Southport, Indiana, native, played baseball and basketball at Butler University in Indianapolis. He led the Butler University basketball team to the 1929 national collegiate championship and was the captain of the 1930 squad.

Hildebrand began his major league career in 1931 pitching for the Cleveland Indians. This glove art portrays him in his Indians pinstripes.

The glove he is depicted wearing in the painting is a very close match to the vintage 1930s glove that is used as the "canvas" for the artwork.

Hildy went on to pitch for the St. Louis Browns for two seasons, in 1937-38.

In 1939, Hildebrand joined the New York Yankees and went 10-4 with a career low 3.06 ERA. That Yankee team went on to win the World Series in '39. Hildy pitched in Game 4, pitching four shutout innings en route to the title.

1940 was his final big league season. Hildebrand finished his career with a 83-78 record and 4.35 ERA.

This artwork has over 120 hours invested in its creation, which includes researching his career and photo archives, sketching designs and sourcing the appropriate glove from an antiques dealer specializing in sports memorabilia, then painting.

Edd Roush Depicted on Leather Baseball Glove

Roush is celebrated with this hand-painted depiction on a glove similar to the style he wore during his playing days, specifically the 1910s.

Roush’s batting titles and career .323 average are noted, as are his Championship season in the Federal League, 1914, and World Series win in 1919.

Roush played for the Indianapolis Hoosiers of the “outlaw” Federal League in 1914, whose uniform he is portrayed in, before going on to star for the Cincinnati Reds.

Roush's name is hand-painted in a manner reminiscent to 1910s type treatments, including gold highlights.

The glove is a Spalding 1910s model. It’s for a left-handed thrower, like Roush.

Baseball Anthem Featured on Leather Baseball Glove

“Take Me Out to the Ball Game” is celebrated with this two-side hand-painted artwork on a 1900s glove similar to the style worn in the first decade of the 20th century.

The unofficial official anthem of baseball, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” was written in 1908 by two men who had never been to a game before.

The catchy tune was written by Albert Von Tilzer (with lyrics by Jack Norworth), whose portrait painting appears on this artwork on the backside along with the recognizable first notes from the song chorus.

The song title is painted on the front, employing type design inspired by the look of the times when the song was written.

The song’s ubiquity within the culture – beyond being sung at ballparks during the 7th inning stretch – is pronounced, appearing in movies, children’s books, commercials, and newly-recorded versions countless times during the past 112 years.

Oscar Charleston Depicted on Leather Baseball Glove

Charleston is celebrated with this hand-painted portrait on a vintage 1930’s Spalding first base mitt. The power-hitting centerfielder moved over to first base later in his career. The glove is for a left-handed thrower, like Charleston.

Charleston played in the Negro Leagues, starting with his hometown Indianapolis ABC's (American Brewing Company) in 1915.

He played for the ABC’s in the first Negro National League games on May 2, 1920.

He played and managed the mighty Pittsburgh Crawfords in the 1930's and spent nine winter ball seasons in Cuba.

Charleston returned to Indianapolis in the early 1950s as manager of the Indianapolis Clowns.

Charleston's name hand-painted in 1910s-style type.
