Toni Stone celebrated with depiction on vintage Baseball Gloves

The first woman to play professionally in the Negro Leagues, Stone took over playing second base for the Indianapolis Clowns in 1953, the position Hank Aaron had played for the team the previous season.

Overcoming being shunned by most of the male players, she paved the way for two other women to join the Clowns, Mamie Johnson and Connie Morgan.

The Clowns were the last of the Negro Leagues teams, continuing to play exhibition games into the 1980s, long after the league folded in 1956.

Stone was inducted into the Women's Sports Hall of Fame in 1993. A play about her life, “Toni Stone”, was produced in 2019. She died in 1996.

Pioneer player Stone celebrated on classic baseball gloves by artist Sean Kane.

Original acrylic painting on gloves style similar to those from Stone’s era.
Gloves are approximately 12 inches wide x 18 inches tall x 2.5 inches deep.
Frame is 22.5 in. wide X 30.5 in. tall x 1.75 in. deep. Depth with glove is 4.25 in. deep.
Arrives with hanging hardware installed and included. Just a hammer needed to display painting.
Gloves are securely wired to wood panel frame and are removable if necessary.

Sean Kane's baseball glove art is in the collection of the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and was part of the "Chasing Dreams" exhibit at the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art. Sean was recognized as “Artist of the Month” by the National Art Museum of Sport. His work has been commissioned by the Philadelphia Phillies, Cal Ripken Sr Foundation and The Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. More about Sean
