Ken Griffey Jr. Featured on a Painted Baseball Glove

“The Kid” Painted Glove Celebrates Griffey’s Hall of Fame Career

Ken Griffey Jr Baseball Art by Sean Kane

Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr featured on a hand-painted Rawlings outfielders glove similar to the style he wore throughout his career.

"The Kid" in his classic swing pose, knocking one of his 630 career home runs.

Ken Griffey Jr Baseball Art by Sean Kane

This painting of Junior was a custom commissioned piece, given as a corporate gift to a big Griffey fan.

Finding a new Rawlings glove for a left-handed thrower with the trapeze-style web similar to what Griffey used was half the fun – and it turned out to be a stunner with gold trim.

So it made perfect sense to incorporate gold paint into the decidedly Mariners-inspired palette for this painting.

I made sure to include the three teams Griffey played for with a nod to his signature backwards hat, too!

Also hand-lettered on the artwork are Griffey’s numerous Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards, All-Star appearances and his 1997 MVP award.

Toni Stone celebrated with depiction on vintage Baseball Gloves

The first woman to play professionally in the Negro Leagues, Stone took over playing second base for the Indianapolis Clowns in 1953, the position Hank Aaron had played for the team the previous season.

Overcoming being shunned by most of the male players, she paved the way for two other women to join the Clowns, Mamie Johnson and Connie Morgan.

The Clowns were the last of the Negro Leagues teams, continuing to play exhibition games into the 1980s, long after the league folded in 1956.

Stone was inducted into the Women's Sports Hall of Fame in 1993. A play about her life, “Toni Stone”, was produced in 2019. She died in 1996.

Stone's name hand-painted in a typeface similar to that used on Clowns promotional posters in 1950s.

Framed on wood panel with painted mat stripe design recalling Indianapolis Clowns posters for their exhibition games and game programs.

"What Toni Stone provided us is a look inside at possibilities of what hope and dreams are all about."

Bob Kendrick, President of Negro Leagues Baseball Museum
